Talkies is San Francisco’s best unconventional, experimental, and multi-media live comedy event! Every month comedians, writers, improvisers, and performers work outside of their regular routines to push the boundaries of comedy; slideshows, characters, oddball short films and off-stage antics are all the order of the day.
Since its beginnings in the basement of San Francisco’s Lost Weekend Video, this monthly variety show has been an incubator for many unique comedy talents spreading their wings on weird flights of fancy. Past guest performers have included Brent Weinbach, Ron Lynch, Myq Kaplan, Kate Rhoades, Eugene S. Robinson, Sad Vicious, Calvin Johnson, Beth Lisick, and Steve Lambert. The show is a regular feature of SF Sketchfest and almost always sells out.
The show is presented by the Talkies regulars Scott Vermeire, Nick Stargu, Aviva Siegel, Land Smith, and technical wizard Will Scovill.
Anna Seregina is a stand-up comic and performer, described as having the “worst aura." She was a co-host of “Terrified with Dave Ross,” part of the Nerdist network. She has appeared in comedy festivals (RIOT LA, SF Sketchfest), hosted music festivals (All Tomorrow's Parties, Panache’s Bruise Cruise, Phono del Sol), told stories at storytelling events (RISK!, the Moth, Porchlight), and done weird things publicly (SF MoMA, Artists’ Television Access, SFAI, Public Access TV). She has written on "Billy on the Street." She starred in Joey Izzo’s “Stepsister,” which screened at Cannes, San Francisco International, and Traverse City film festivals. Most facts about her are true. Most truths about her are facts.
Warm Red is Brian Lucett and Anastasia Vigo. They perform emotional, absurd, multimedia comedy that is semi-improvised. They are also friends.
She has performed stand up and improv everywhere from Cobbs Comedy Club, The Comedy Store LA, The She Dot Festival in Toronto, The Del Close Marathon and various other hives of scum and villainy. She records a podcast called Failure to Launch with her live in lover and can be found on Twitter @seriousmolly
Land Smith was born in a hole. He eats birds, twigs, and seeds. People are frightened at first because they think he is a talking Easter Island head, but they are quickly put at ease by his brilliant one-liners and on-stage confidence.
He has performed at the Punch Line, Berkeley Art Museum, SF Sketchfest, and is a co-producer of the multimedia comedy show Talkies.
"Land Smith is really going places, comedy-wise."
"Everybody agrees he's the funniest."
Those are actual quotes.
Contact Land through his facebook page for booking.
Aviva is a stand-up comic by day, and a stand-up comic by night. Her jokes are silly (clown horn sound) yet personal (awooga), and she really just wants to have fun up there.
Nick Stargu is a musician, comedian, writer and filmmaker who is best known for his multimedia / musical comedy act, DJ REAL, which has been featured at Outside Lands, San Francisco Sketchfest, Bridgetown Comedy Festival and more! He most recently appeared on the TV show “Flophouse” on Viceland and as a host on NBC's show "The Guest List" on Seeso. And he’s opened for Devo!
Scott Vermeire is known for his character-based comedy and his rock band Sad Vicious. Scott is not a narc, he sincerely wants to party with you guys and also wants to know where to get the primo shit, in a very non-law enforcement kinda way.
