HICKORY ROBOT hails from the fertile acoustic soil of Cincinnati, Ohio. The original trio of guitarist Jim Pelz, mandolinist Scott Carnder, and fiddler Lauren Schloemer came together in 2008 and by 2010 had released an album of critically-praised originals entitled Firefly. 2011 saw new bassist Mike Georgin complete the quartet and a year of constant gigging that resulted in a Cincinnati Entertainment Award nomination for best Bluegrass band. 2012 finds the band finishing their 2nd album, Sawyer, and continuing to grow onstage, delivering a dynamic and powerful live show filled with captivating songs that catch the listener from the first. Citybeat Magazine's summation: "stellar songwriting"; "impeccable musicianship".
Front porch melodies and song lyrics grown out of the rocky topsoil of Eastern Kentucky's Appalachian Mountains intertwine SUNDY BEST's roots in every song they sing. They are storytellers and balladeers. They are crowd rockers and party starters. The band's visceral sound and incredible live shows have gained them a loyal following of dedicated fans from the hills and hollers of Appalachia, all the way to the bustling one way streets under downtown city lights across the south. There are mountains in their music - valleys of love lost and missing home, peaks of rowdy Saturday nights chasing Kentucky women, and the journey in between. With influences ranging from country and bluegrass to rock, soul, and rhythm and blues, the duo produces music that, at times, is hard to classify. That's just fine by bandmates Kris Bentley and Nick Jamerson, whose new album Door Without a Screen released on June 2nd. No need for a radio template, just the strum of guitar strings, bass and snare, life lyrics, and the family, friends, and fans that make it all worth it. Every song is a reminder that they have not forgotten where they came from. So put some Kentucky Bourbon in a mason jar, walk barefoot on cool grass, play Sundy Best loud and dance until your roots show.
Scott Mulvahill
After years of exploring different tastes and abilities, Scott Mulvahill has chosen to make rock music his canvas. The singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist grew up in Southeast Texas listening to the likes of Ray Charles, Elvis, The Beatles, Harry Belafonte, and the music of the Church.
In his early teens, Scott picked up the bass guitar on a whim. Natural talent and the lure of a challenge drove him to be the best musician he could. Continuing to play the bass, he also began to explore guitar, piano, and singing. With the encouragement of a mentor, it became clear to him that he was destined for a career in music. He immersed himself in a multitude of genres; studying jazz, classical and rock, listening to Simon & Garfunkel, Miles Davis and The White Stripes. From this musical baptism Scott has emerged his own man and artist.
Scott's passion and dedication to the art of song is apparent on first listen. A combination of calculated skill and raw energy, his songs are honest and compelling. They are the product of contemplation, joy and pain, fact and fiction, countless hours of lost sleep, hard work, God-given abilities, and much love. With this in mind that Scott set out to record his first album of original songs, Share the Sky, which released in January 2011, and currently has been on tour playing bass with Ricky Skaggs' Kentucky Thunder.
