Rafael Piccolotto de Lima Chamber Ensemble

Rafael Piccolotto de Lima Chamber Ensemble

The Rafael Piccolotto de Lima Chamber Project unites world class musicians with various backgrounds to explore the musical possibilities between jazz, classical and Brazilian music. The Latin Grammy Nominated composer and conductor leads the ensemble presenting award winning original compositions and arrangements. The instrumentation of this project, a small string session, winds and a Brazilian rhythm section, allows the composer to explore unique soundscapes. Creative orchestrations serve as a platform to feature soloists including John Raymond (trumpet), Hadar Noiberg (flute) and Chico Pinheiro (guitar).

Rafael has had works premiered and recorded by artists and ensembles such as Terence Blanchard and Chick Corea, Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo (Brazil) and Metropole Orkest (Netherlands). He was the Henry Mancini Institute composer fellow and assistant conductor from 2011-2016. Aside from this NYC chamber project, Rafael also leads Orquestra Urbana (São Paulo), a big band comprised of some of the finest Brazilian jazz musicians. His awards include the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award for two consecutive years and a total of 11 Graduate DOWNBEAT Awards as a composer, arranger, conductor and sound engineer.
