The Black Locust Society was founded in 1712 by Frederick W. Nesmith, a blacksmith by trade with a penchant for the occult. The details are hazy as to the first few years, but by 1715 membership had grown to twenty six, sworn to secrecy through not only their fear of persecution, but a small tattoo of the order's symbol, sanctifying each for life. The society would realize the full potential of what they were involved in six years later, when Nesmith's wife, concerned that his time away from home was being spent in an adulterous manner, began searching for evidence. A fair maiden she did not discover, but rather a bevy of items related to the Black Locust Society, including a hand engraved ceremonial blade which she promptly delivered to the local authorities through fears that her husband was involved in witchcraft. Nesmith was burned at the stake three weeks later.

Following the events, and with Nesmith now a martyr, the remaining members moved further underground in hopes of continuing with their mission, resurfacing in 2010 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It has been speculated that the timing coincides with preparations for the 300 year anniversary of the group's founding, but current membership has declined comment.
