Dear Nora is a passionately celebrated recording project fronted by Katy Davidson, touring in support of the re-issue of the 2004 LP, "Mountain Rock", released on by Orindal on Dec 9th, 2016. Katy (also known for her work with Key Losers, Lloyd & Michael, YACHT, and Gossip) wrote "Mountain Rock" during the time of George W. Bush’s early presidency, the 9/11 attacks, and the beginning of the Iraq war. She recorded the majority of the songs during winter in rural Arizona at the end of 2003, after returning home from a tour of Sweden. “Hey Ya!” by Outkast had just been released and it was playing everywhere. Overall this album is about bliss and terror, and how interactions with wilderness and humanity can provoke those emotions.
Tara Jane O'neil and friends
Tara Jane ONeil is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and visual artist. She creates melodic and experimental music under her own name and in collaboration with her brilliant friends. Her recordings and live performances range from solo songing to noise improvisations. TJO has composed and performed music and sound for films, theater and dance performances, and written large and small ensemble experimental architectures.
As a solo artist, TJO has released 7 albums internationally. She was a founding member of Rodan and several other bands, and has collaborated on recordings and stages with musical artists such as the groups Ida, Mirah, Jackie O MF, Mount Eerie, Papa M, Come, the vocalist Nikaido Kazumi, and many more. In addition to rock clubs, galleries and DIY spaces all around north America, Europe, and Japan, she has performed at All Tomorrow's Parties, the Centre de Pompidou, the Whitney Museum of American Art, TBA festival (portland), High Desert Test Sites and many many others. She has shown her visual art in galleries all over the northern hemisphere and had four monographs of her visual art published.
Her latest album, WHERE SHINE NEW LIGHTS was released January 27, 2014 on Kranky.
Stephen Steinbrink is a 27 year old songwriter and recording engineer born and raised in the arid desert of Arizona and currently floating around the western USA, dividing his time between the green spaces around Olympia, Washington and the concrete flats of Oakland, California. Having spent the better part of a decade touring North America and Europe, Stephen has established himself as a capable and prolific wielder of the pop form, both with his simple heartbreaking lyrics that explore the banal and absurd, to his melodies that can be instantly recalled — as if they’ve already lived a full life in the listener’s head.
Beginning his career in the mid-2000’s as a part the west coast DIY underground, Stephen Steinbrink has gone on to relentlessly self-produce 8 LPs of pop music. His breakthrough album, Arranged Waves was recorded in Steinbrink’s home studio and was released by Melodic (US/UK) and P-Vine (Japan) in 2014. Praised by the NME and the Guardian, the album explored themes of lost images and repressed memories, conditional reasoning and Zen Buddhism, but ultimately expressed a human vulnerability in its recording quality that makes the album both perplexing and compelling.
Steinbrink’s new album ANAGRAMS was recorded by Nicholas Wilbur (Mount Eerie, Hungry Cloud Darkening) at the legendary UNKNOWN in Anacortes, WA, and will be released by Melodic and P-Vine in summer 2016.
