Biographies of Jimmie Ray & Cyndi Cantrell and Friends:
Jimmie Ray:
Born JR Cantrell, Jimmie Ray spent his early years in the shadows of North Carolina’s Great Smoky Mountains, between Asheville and Hendersonville. Jimmie is a PK (preacher’s kid) and was raised on old-style country and gospel music. He has been entertaining since the age of 16 as a singer, actor songwriter, radio DJ.
Jimmie’s diversified background shines through his songwriting and stirring vocals. His performances draw on his big country music songbook. He has been the leader of noted groups in many genres including, folk, rockabilly, gospel and bluegrass music. Jimmie’s performances draw those deep “American Roots.” You feel and hear the authentic country music roots in Jimmie’s rich baritone voice.
Jimmie Ray has toured 25 states and has more than 1,000 concert appearances. His audiences immediately feel the close relationship he has with Johnny Cash’s music .The Cantrell’s “Tribute to the Man in Black” come from the heart.
Cyndi:
While Cyndi is a California girl her family roots were planted in Louisiana. Jimmie Ray and Cyndi have been married for 17 yrs and have sung together for over a decade. Their joy of performing comes from a love of recreating the duets of Johnny and June Carter Cash.
Cyndi repertoire includes the vocal styles of June Carter Cash, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Wanda Jackson, and Patsy Montana. Cyndi also plays a mean harmonica and possesses unique sense of humor. She has grown into a seasoned entertainer. Cyndi’s on-stage banter keeps the couple’s show spontaneous.
Stephen:
Guitarist Stephen Patt hails from Baltimore, Maryland, and is known as "The Rock and Roll Doctor". He is a Family Doctor during the day, and night time plays steel guitar, dobro, and a whole bunch of other stringed instruments as loud as possible. Stephen was a member of the The Chambers Brothers and Edgar Winter's White Trash during the sixties, and now tours and records with Butch Walker and The Black Widows.
Jim:
Multi-instrumentalist Jim Wootten covers Bass, Keyboards, Mandolin, Acoustic 6 & 12 string guitars, and backing vocals. He has traveled the world with the famous groups Zepagain, 4 Way Street and Long Street. Talent apparently runs in the family, as Jim’s uncle is none other than legendary guitarist, Les Paul! Jim has worked with Cyndi scores of times over the past 25 years.
