The Belle Jar, the Cardinal Grey

the Case
One day, a troll that lived under a bridge crawled out to try and find out what the glorious sound he was hearing could possibly be. When he peeked out over the little green knoll he saw what seemed to be four faceless men playing beautiful music. He didn't realize that he was looking at the band from behind, and that all players really had friendly smiles on their faces. They would have gladly been his friends, and maybe even let him play the tambourine since he had exceptional rhythm for a troll. Sadly, he was afraid of men with no faces, so he crawled back under the bridge. He kept listening from his hole, however, and decided that he liked the faceless music. Maybe someday he'll come out and make some great new friends. Let's hope.
The Belle Jar has hit the ground running since the five members converged in Denver from musically rich places like L.A., Texas, Chicago and Minnesota. This diversity fuels the catchy folk rock songs of lead singer Ryan James. After several years of teaching English and sporadically playing solo shows in southern California, Ryan moved home to Colorado to write and record the debut album Fall Systems Go. He recorded the album over a period of two years in various houses, churches, hotels and basements. On the album, he plays every instrument and sings every harmony. Not bad for someone who didn’t even play music until college.
