In 2009, Gabe Sapolsky announced a new wrestling promotion EVOLVE via some viral videos featuring one of the company's competitors, Jimmy Jacobs.
During interviews Sapolsky stated that Evolve would have stronger emphasis on rules and would not limit anyone based on their own respective style of wrestling in favor of showcasing the talent's individual strengths and covering up their weaknesses.

The concept of the promotion was to be the company's emphasis on the wrestlers' win-loss records. They have divided the company into two divisions - singles wrestlers and tag teams.

On November 25, 2011, Evolve and Dragon Gate USA announced the unification of the two promotions. Evolve and Dragon Gate USA will still promote separate events, but the two share rosters, including stables, and Evolve recognizes Dragon Gate USA's Open the Freedom Gate Championship and Open the United Gate Championship as its top two championships.

In February, 2013, Evolve announced that they would be holding a tournament to crown the first Evolve Champion effectively eliminating the records system. The tournament was held in Secaucus, New Jersey at WrestleCon. Evolve used the records of the talent to determine the seedings in the tournament. The tournament winner and current EVOLVE Champion is A.R. FOX.

EVOLVE presents pro wrestling with a unique no frills approach. EVOLVE puts all the emphasis on in ring action with its one-of-a-kind presentation. EVOLVE features a talent roster with the goal of furthering pro wrestling styles.

EVOLVE, which was named by Bryan Danielson (now known as Daniel Bryan in WWE), presented it's first show on January 16th, 2010. Here's the basics of EVOLVE:

EVOLVE follows the inherent rules of sportsmanship. If it is not tolerated in the regular sports world, it won't go unpunished in EVOLVE. Examples include attacking an opponent before or after the bell, using a weapon and making physical contact with an official. These infractions can result in fine and/or suspension.

EVOLVE takes the emphasis off superficial entertainment aspects like elaborate ring entrances and undisciplined promos to put the spotlight solely on in ring action. Live events are kept fast paced with stripped down ring entrances and sideline like post match interviews.
