My Pet Dragon
Recently featured in Filter Magazine's "Discover The Undiscovered", the buzz about New York City-based rock band My Pet Dragon can be attributed to their anthemic songs and powerful live show. Lead singer/songwriter Todd Michaelsen's soaring vocals and strong pop melodies define their newly released LP, Mountains and Cities. The 5-piece melodic rock band has been compared to Coldplay, the Smashing Pumpkins, and the Flaming Lips. Roll Magazine says, "As U2 and Muse are already packing stadiums around the world... it's really only a matter of time before My Pet Dragon is doing the same. Thanks to Michaelsen and his musical compadres, they've already got the hooks and chutzpah to make it happen. Now all they need is opportunity to knock on the door." 'Mountains and Cities' also boasts contributions by members of Mercury Rev, Gov't Mule, and Hurricane Bells. The record was produced by Stephen George, the former drummer of the band Ministry. George has worked with a wide range of pop artists including Iggy Pop, the Cars, and Common. The Electric Panda music blog says "if you remember a time when rock music on the radio was GOOD – My Pet Dragon is your band." IN LIKE LIONS
A band that's always changing, In Like Lions allows their diverse collection of life and musical experiences constantly inspire them. The Boston locals strive to make soulful, powerful yet approachable music.
In 2010 under the direction of LA based producer, Jim Dineen (Saint Motel, Adam Jones, Whiskey Saints), In Like Lions worked for over 60 hours in just four days at 1867 Recording Studio in Chelsea, MA to record "At Night," their first EP. The album garnered praise within the Boston community and showcased their talent. After the October 2010 release of "At Night," In Like Lions was eager to begin their second studio effort.
The quartet returned to 1867 Recording Studio in early 2011. This time around, Dineen was joined by owner/producer of 1867, Chris McLaughlin (Mean Creek, Magic Magic, Township) to produce ILL's latest album.
The band has spent over a year writing and experimenting with new sounds and ideas; working to once again separate themselves slightly from what they had previously done. They felt the combination of two producers from such different backgrounds was the only way to bring the group and it's music to places it had yet to go. The new LP demonstrates In Like Lion's growth and maturation.
The new album will be released in the fall of 2011 by indie start-up Fort Point Recordings. You can find their "At Night" EP in Newbury Comics, on iTunes, and other major digital distribution sites.
