Jon Bell

Jon Bell

24 year-old Jon Bell is a composer/song-writer from Arlington, VA, currently based in Brooklyn, NY. His debut album "What do you hear, what do you say" has garnered some attention from various indie music blogs since it's release last year. This year Jon releases his sophomore album "Are we living yet?", the product of spending a month alone in a beach house in Kitty Hawk, NC. Jon's music challenges the singer-songwriter genre with fully realized orchestrations rooted in a classically trained style.

Odetta Hartman

Odetta Bess Hartman writes songs of greek myths and traveling, of pride, Pynchon, and fairy tales, of animals and body parts and made-up words. Classically trained on the violin for 18 years at Third Street Music School, her musical education was further supplemented with courses at Bard College in jazz voice and improvisation, composition, electronic music, and folk song traditions. Her experiences playing with larger bands (primarily The Sparrows and Diamond Doves) have led her across the country twice on tour as well as onto the stages of such reputable New York venues as Mercury Lounge, The Bearsville Theater, Sidewalk Cafe, Bowery Ballroom, and Le Poisson Rouge.

Vulpes Vulpes

For the past few years Bushwick resident Tanya Lam has performed under the moniker VulpesVulpes, a nod to the most geographically advanced member of the carnivora order - the red fox. Similar to her animal counterpart, Lam’s presence in performance is sanguine, collected and impossible to shake. From sharing a stage with friends in a full chamber arrangement to impromptu and intimate performances in the late hours of the night, VulpesVulpes has an beguiling affect on listeners new and old.

A classically trained multi-instrumentalist, Lam may call upon the use of a loop pedal to create intricate layers of strings and things. Floating above this arrangement, her voice carries out the juxtaposition between celestial resonance against the growl of a single barrel bourbon. Lam describes her sound as “ blues infused chamber folk” and has garnered comparisons to artists ranging from Melody Gardot to Jolie Holland, Chan Marshall and Tom Waits.

On her first release, Lam explores the contrast between classic and au courant arrangements in a four song EP - Reflets Dans L’eau. This collection of songs is the first installment in an ambitious long term project titled the Elemental Suites, and is reflective of the intuitive water element. Drawing influence from artists ranging from Sufjan Stevens to Cat Power and Feist, as well as the ghostly imagery of sailors lost at sea, this culmination displays a grand exploration of the human emotion. The recordings were self produced by VulpesVulpes and were captured in the bedrooms and basements of each contributing musician. The project was then mixed by Jonathan Smith and mastered by Kevin Blackler. Reflets Dans L’eau is set to release early this Spring.
