Midnight Hour, Act As If, Y Luv

Midnight Hour

Midnight Hour first came together in 2006, one year before their first EP "Ghost in the Mirror" was made. Although he was happy with the art they created together, front man Brad Lodge was never comfortable with his bands initial mix of members. Fate interceded and Lodge met Tim Johnson, Dan Ardis, Jared Mitchell and James Mitchell. With the lineup solidified the Band began collaborating on material; within weeks, the single, "Running Away", was created and helped introduce the band to the world via several T.V. shows. This exposure created the global base that has spawned over a million YouTube hits via fan generated videos. Since then the band has self produced their first LP (self titled) and got the funding they needed to create the record from their loyal fan base. The first single, "Modern Love" has gotten the biggest push from premier Los Angeles based alt/rock station, KROQ and has been complemented by college radio spins. Staying true to their roots the band has decided to end 2011 in their backyard with a series of homegrown shows at High Schools and Colleges. The video for "Modern Love" debuted on KROQ in mid-November.

Act As If

Peter Verdell started his career as an A&R rep for Drive-Thru Records during the pop-punk revolution of the early-mid 2000’s, an era which saw the label propel bands like Something Corporate and New Found Glory to mainstream success. Verdell decided to leave the label and begin recording his own music, and in May 2010 he released his debut LP There’s a Light under the name Act As If. Songs from There’s a Light were featured on TV shows spanning ABC, CBS, MTV, and IFC, and the album was featured as “New & Noteworthy” by iTunes music & “Fuseworthy” by Fuse TV. Additionally, Apple placed the song "About Saying & Meaning Goodbye" in its OS X Lion demo video.

After the release of There’s a Light, an official band lineup formed, consisting of Peter Verdell [vocals, guitar], Diego de la Rosa [drums], J. David Carrera [guitar], and Sara Lindsay [keys, vocals].

Act As If recently released a new 4-song EP entitled The Iron Is Hot, which has received attention from buzzworthy blogs including Kings of A&R, Kick Kick Snare, and Buzz Bands LA. The song "Oh My My" has been getting airplay on The World Famous KROQ FM from DJ / taste-maker Kat Corbett, and the video for the song was premiered on MTV.com.

L.A.'s Y LUV may be fairly new to the music scene but they're already well on their way to earning spots on iPods and party playlists with recent songs like the electro-rock anthem "Keep It Rollin'." Young but hardworking, the quintet's latest single is a nice expansion on their sound from the previous EP "How Chill Can You Let Go." Similarly to their first single, "All Night," which featured a sparse intro with a heavy bass line that built up to soaring chorus, "Keep It Rollin'" initially keeps listeners in suspense only to lead into an eclectic burst of intricate guitar lines and synthesized beats designed for fist-pumping. However, if you could do with less electro components, "Earthquakes" is also a recommended track in which strong vocals and bright guitar riffs dominate.---Buzzbands.la
