Guided By Voices
Detective
In 2009, Robert Pollard reunited the “classic era” (1993-1996) Guided By Voices line-up for Matador Records' 21st anniversary and a short tour: Tobin Sprout (guitar) “Mitch” Mitchell (guitar), Greg Demos (bass) and Kevin Fennel (drums), who recorded GBV's ground-breaking lo-fi album, Bee Thousand, which Amazon.com has heralded as the #1 All Time Greatest Indie Rock Album.
Following sold out shows and fantastic performances, Pollard took the band into the studio to record Let's Go Eat The Factory, which was released in January, 2012 to tremendous acclaim:
iTunes Single of the Week, iTunes featured album, David Letterman TV show appearance, NPR Exclusive First Listen, Rolling Stone Magazine Playlist, covers of Magnet and Ghettoblaster magazine...
In June, GBV will be releasing yet another new album, which ups the ante with the standout singles, "Keep It In Motion" and "Class Clown Spots A UFO"
We're Détective, or Detective (the internet is not fond of French accent marks, but we were named after the Godard film of that title, in the unlikely case you're interested) a very new rock band from Los Angeles. For now, we consist of James Greer, who used to play in Guided By Voices and a bunch of other, less well-known bands, Guylaine Vivarat, who plays in an LA band called Useless Keys and used to play in another one called Tennis System, and Rory Modica, who also plays in Useless Keys with Guylaine. We've recorded and released two EPs in quick succession, Very Fallen World and the forthcoming Basket of Masks, which you can find here, and made two videos which you can find here and here. We played our first show on February 29, 2012 at the Empty Bottle in Chicago. It was a blast. We're playing a lot more shows in the coming weeks and months. We'll do our best to keep you up to date. We're also recording a lot of songs in the coming weeks and months. We'll keep you posted in that regard as well.
