The witty lyrics and expansive arrangements of D. Gookin dazzle the mind and fill the soul with the notion of infinite potential via synth patches.
Avra is a neo-post-punk alternative band that formed in 2002. Despite line-up changes, Avra remained true to their cause. Making music that is uncompromised, without idol dreams or financial success and record deals. Music that is heavily influenced by the issues that surround our everyday lives. Issues that are most often overlooked or all together ignored, with the hopes that they will mend themselves. It is part of AVRA’s mission to shed light on these issues through the outlet of music; bring people to a state of recognition or awareness if they have not done so before. With its members coming from different ethnic backgrounds, the band has a collective focus on a global humanitarian message rather than of a single nation, religion or flag. Avra has been in equal parts influenced by bands both known and unknown such as, Joy Division, The Chameleons, early U2, The Sound, Trypes, The Cure, The Smiths and Pink Floyd. Documentaries such as "Zeitgeist", "Bowling for Columbine", and "Tank Man" as well as books like "1984", "Brave New World" and "Confessions of an Economic Hit-Man" have also played a big part in the bands development.
Inspired by italo, electro and the 80s new wave movement, Teeel aka Jim Smith credits his sound to marathon movie watching and being an obsessive gear head. Crammed in a 10x10 teal painted room, stacked with synthesizers and walls covered with vintage Moog ads, Jim creates music that is perhaps best described as hypnotic soft-vocal, synthpop.
Crozet
Crozet is a computer-based project started by John Helmuth while he was living in Philly during his senior year of college. The project now includes Sean Lee and has a chill wave/lo-fi/electronic/synth pop sound.
AIMES is the production moniker and musical alter ego of Alabama born,
Brooklyn resident, Aman Ellis. Aman entered into the world of electronic music almost by mistake. After years of searching for his sound on the guitar, many of which involved him trying to make his guitar sound like a synthesizer, he opted to trade the two. Now armed with a plethora of gadgets and toys, Aman spends his time bridging the divide between the organic tones of his past and the lush oscillations in his present.
AIMES', recent release 'Your Floor Is Now A Tree' brings to mind the
lush analog synths of the 80's and calls to mind a deep nostalgia that
you never knew was so familiar.
His adventuresome style of synth-wave space pop explores vast sonic
territories, keeping a close affinity to other-worldly psychedelia and
interstellar weirdness.
