The Mynabirds
Icky Blossoms, Arthur and the Librarian, Great Isaac

Before Georgie James, Laura Burhenn (half of the former DC duo) had spent her early years crafting music on her own. So when Georgie James split, she went back to what she knew. In the spring of 2009, Laura gathered her favorite books, records, and people around her and wrote what would become the first album from her new band, The Mynabirds.
What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood was recorded in the rugged hills of Oregon in the summer of 2009 with singer-songwriter/producer Richard Swift at the helm. Laura and Richard took turns at instruments until the record was fully orchestrated. When they finished recording each night, they'd polish off a bottle of whiskey and dance to records — Dandy Livingstone, Buffy Sainte-Marie, James Brown — until the sun came up. That energy really shows itself on The Mynabirds' debut album, particularly in "Let the Record Go" and "Numbers Don't Lie." Other songs, like "What We Gained in the Fire" and "Right Place," are more reflective, the lyrics following a Zen trajectory, echoing the sentiment of George Harrison's All Things Must Pass.
Icky Blossoms bloomed from the blizzards of 2011 in Omaha ,Ne. Consisting of three multi-dimensional artists, Derek Pressnall, Nik Fackler and Sarah Bohling, Icky Blossoms draw from old friendships, rhythmic experiments and a love for robust melodies to create music stretching from hazy pop to pulsing dance. Music that feels familiar yet so unfamiliar, like the sun heating your face, old haunts, or falling in love.
Arthur and the Librarian is a folk/indie band formed by Arthur Gregory Crittenden and Aubrey Howard, with friends filling in along the way. Their music is best listened to on a sunny day.
Great Isaac is a folk rock quintet based out of South St. Louis. Forming in May 2011 after all frequenting the same bar, their dynamic harmonies and dark lyrics often get them compared to the likes of Neutral Milk Hotel, Mumford & Sons, and The Good Life. Their line-up (which consists of Steve Lickenbrock on guitar & vocals, Casey Kell on drums, Jeremy Theel on bass, Scott Wilson on banjo, Nick Ebeling on piano & backing vocals, and part-time trumpet player Chris Kepley) lends itself to the diversity of those comparisons, and their initial 45-minute set of completely original material does not fail to deliver.
