A '64 Bel Air barrels down old Highway 99. In the darkness to the west lie row after row of cotton, to the east grapevines and other cash crops of California's central valley. A break in the fog up ahead allows the warmth and buzz of neon lights to break the wet silence of that long dark drive. But before any head hits that motel pillow, the brain begins to shake, the bones begin to rattle, and the heart begins to roll as the seasoned blend of veteran musicianship which is Motel Drive, the slinky, rootsy, and greasy country, rock and roll, and rockabilly music carries you to that lone bar on the edge of town, that bar mama told you to stay away from, where Gretsch guitars wail, an upright bass slaps you around, and voodoo drums pound the night away. It's Motel Drive, baby, where Cash and Stray Cats pound 'em down with Gram, Buck, and Dwight. It's blood, love, and beer, the smell and taste of the Motel Drive stew. One hell of a night and your new favorite band. Motel Drive.
Blake Jones and Trike Shop
Blake Jones & the Trike Shop is a quirky avant-pop band trying to, depending on who you talk to, bridge the gap between: frank zappa and paul mccartney/old “SMiLE’ bootlegs and episodes of "Dark Shadows" /15 century church music and Dr. Seuss. --Theremins whir, guitars clang, and a good time is had by all. Spear-headed by life-long songwriter and DIY-er Blake Jones, their recordings are characterized by strong melodies supported by an eclectic blend of standard 'rock' instruments and thrift store oddities such as the theremin and toy piano.
LEZAYR is a California based band best known for their distinctive alternative sound and bilingual lyrics. They have shared the stage with well known Mexican bands like DLD, Elefante and Zoé. It's debut album "Listen to the Faces" has been well recieved and portraits the energy of the band. It's current line up has been together for 3 years and their sound is influenced by the styles of bands like Foo Fighters, U2, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, 30 Seconds to Mars, Coldplay, Soda Stereo, Heroes del Silencio, Led Zeppelin, Oasis, etc, constantly evolving and changing. Their lyrics will make you sing along and enjoy a musical banquet (dessert included).
Founded in Guadalajara, Lezayr began as a workshop/project led by Alex Ayala and had the sole purpose of collaborating with different musicians. In 2002 while attending the University of Guadalajara, Alex started writing songs on his own for Lezayr and eventually put together a band. Alex began putting his poetry to music and after his first few shows quickly gained a small but devoted group of fans. Alex's songs revolve around the experiences he's had and witnessed; focussing on interpersonal relationships and the internal geographies of those involved. Love, hate, despair, hope, jealousy, confidence - it's all there in Lezayr's layered, unique sound. The band curent lineup includes lead guitarist Jon Pritchard, drummer Paul Harris and bass player Saul Aguilar. The band enjoys special collaborations with percussionist Dylan Johnson from time to time.
Lezayr currently has 20+ original songs, and is continuing to write more material, and record whenever possible. Their first EP, "Guide Me", was released in 2009 and can be downloaded for FREE from www.noisetrade.com/lezayr, and the single of the same name from their website. Their long awaited debut album "Listen to the Faces" was released in August 2nd, 2011. The album includes 11 original tracksand is the proud result of years of recording experience (it was completely self-recorded and produced) and a musical evolution for all the band members. Alex Ayala explains the album as "a collection of life experiences. I think everyone has been in a similar situation at one point of their lives at least once, and I think people can relate to that. At the end of the day this album is about the music".
Suicide Lounge
An intoxicating mix of drop dead cool and irreverent humor.
Lisa's Big Night Out
Vocalist Lisa Kao has been a local favorite, singing with a variety of jazz and swing ensembles over the past fifteen years. Her musical influences include Anita O’Day, Blossom Dearie, and Peggy Lee. Lisa’s Big Night Out, her current working band, specializes in "cocktail jazz" from the 30's thru the 60's. "I love the timeless melodies and lyrics from the Great American Songbook, the Brazilian masters, and more," says Ms. Kao, "and I'm lucky to work with the best rhythm section players around." Guitarist Rich Severson, bassist Nye Morton, drummer Gary Newmark, and pianist David Aus are regular members of LBNO. When not playing at restaurants around town, the band performs frequently for corporate events and private parties.
