The Van Burens

A fun-loving and animated band, the Van Burens strive to make each concert experience unique. Whether hosting a bathrobe dance party, rocking a cruise ship on Boston Harbor, throwing a holiday show that puts Festivus to shame, or simply rollicking through a set list full of surprises, the VBs make every night a time to remember. The band – named after the eighth and greatest President of the United States, Martin Van Buren – began when a high school band reformed post-college and began gigging at bars and house parties, boasting an eclectic catalog of original music and covers and displaying a singular sense of humor. The style of the music ranges from funk to progressive rock to electronic dance grooves to anything that fits the mood. Their first EP, issued in Fall 2009, brings the dance party to your eardrums; just a taste of an exciting, diverse live show.

The VB have played such big stages as Sullivan Hall, Canal Room, and Bitter End in NYC; The Middle East, Johnny D's, Harper's Ferry, and Copperfield's in Boston; and various rooms throughout the greater northeast. In the Spring of 2010 the Van Burens successfully brought their sound across the U.S. on their first-ever national tour, hitting venues in L.A., Chicago, San Diego, Atlanta, San Francisco, and many other cities.

Grateful Dread

"If Jerry Garcia and Bob Marley had put a band together, it would have sounded like The Grateful Dread."

For years, The Grateful Dread have been packing clubs on the island of Martha's Vineyard, enthralling sellout crowds with their unexpected hybrid of Grateful Dead songs played with reggae and ska grooves.

A homegrown Martha's Vineyard band, The Grateful Dread were as surprised as anyone to discover that the combination of Dead and reggae has amazing appeal, as evidenced by all the college kids, aging Deadheads, wistful Boomers, teenagers, and even little kids that started coming to their sold out shows, dancing like crazy, and making club owners deliriously happy.

The biggest surprise? It turns out you don't need to be a Deadhead to love what they do.

In the summer, Martha's Vineyard draws visitors from all over the world. The Grateful Dread ignited a flame through this diverse community, resulting in club sellouts and lines of people waiting all night to get in. Following up their success, The Grateful Dread have decided to export themselves from the island of Martha's Vineyard to mainland America (sort of how reggae was exported from the island of Jamaica to America).

The members of the band have racked up substantial credits along the way as band members, sidemen, and session players, including stints with The Allman Brothers, Carly Simon, Mick Taylor, Delbert McClinton, The David Letterman Band, Bo Diddley, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, Susan Tedeschi, Patti LaBelle, Blood Sweat and Tears, Chuck Berry, and The Roches, and their drummer founded Entrain, the successful World Beat/Rock Band.

The Grateful Dread are coming to our shores. Whether you like the songs of the Dead, or reggae music, or just top notch musicians taking you places you've never been, an evening with The Grateful Dread is a guaranteed good time.

The Alchemystics

"In a world where musicians seem content to follow established formulas it's encouraging to find a band that can defy boundaries with skill & grace" — Lisa McIntyre, Performer Magazine

Rooted in the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts, The Alchemystics fuse diverse individual styles, backgrounds, & experiences into a unique and uplifting sound embracing reggae, hip hop, soul, and dub. Thoughtfully crafted songs carry positive messages as compelling as the rhythms that drive them; crowds respond instinctively & enthusiastically.

Formed as a trio in 2003, the Alchemystics achieved their current lineup in 2006. The band's popularity grew in step with the release in 2006 of their first album, and their acclaimed EP and live record in 2008.
