Scott Lucas And The Married Men

Scott Lucas And The Married Men

Scott Lucas is best known as the singer/guitarist for the two-man, Chicago rock band Local H. But recently, he has broadened his musical scope and greatly expanded his lineup, pulling together a collective of musicians -- the Married Men -- that currently numbers seven and includes violin, accordion and organ. The result is quite different than Local H and a perfect fit for Lucas’ more personal, introspective songs. Reviewers have compared the band to American Music Club, the Waterboys and Lambchop. Lucas calls the group’s evolving sound “country-ish, alt-rock for people who like metal.”
"The more we played live, the louder the amps got. The louder the amps got....you get the idea. After a certain point, we quit fighting it and decided to get chocolate all over our peanut butter,” Lucas explains, describing how he merged the force and volume of Local H with the sensitive twang of the Married Men for the band’s second album. “It's not like we've turned into Slayer or anything - we've just decided to embrace our dark side. And that goes for the lyrics, as well."

John Carpenter

John Carpenter is not a cinematic figure, although you could make a case for his arrestingly scuzzy blues-rock being the stuff of film noir. But because of his famous name, you weren’t sure what you were getting when Carpenter started playing around L.A. What fans got was John Carpenter, Johnny on his MySpace, a baby-faced assassin with a Gibson as his weapon of choice, fronting a trio with a madman drummer who goes by J. Explosive, making music that sounds like trouble — vintage psych-blues with ragged riffs styled from Hendrix and dire vocals straight outta Scott Walker. Five minutes into his riveting sets, you’ve forgotten there’s any other John Carpenter.

“… layered retro-pop tapestries evoke thoughts of El May as the long lost niece of Brian Wilson.”

“.. a beguiling singer and tunesmith. Her vocal melodies and harmonies intertwine with deceptively simple piano lines to cast cool, alluring spells; subtle touches of rhythm and strings enhance the mood and the atmosphere “ –
Peter Blackstock, No Depression
