Ryan Michaels and his band have created a signature sound that is evident from the moment you hear them. Backing Ryan’s intimate yet powerful vocals on songs largely written by him, their brand of melodic, substance-driven rock is all at once familiar yet wholly original. He sings of love and loss, of triumph and adversity with a yearning tenderness that draws you into the moment and holds you there.
Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where his family owned and operated a music store, Ryan learned to play guitar and write songs, a talent that eventually led him to Nashville, Tennessee. It was there that he met the members of his band and honed the craft of writing while collaborating with some of the industry’s top songwriters. Quickly building a following, Ryan Michaels Band established themselves at renowned venues 12th and Porter, 3rd and Lindsley, Douglas Corner and The Bluebird Café where industry heavies such as Ralph Murphy, VP of ASCAP, took notice. “I knew Ryan was a star the minute he took the stage,” Murphy said. In addition, Michaels has enjoyed success as a headliner for the USO, touring throughout Germany and Italy.
Ryan’s artistic vision is evocative of traditional rock as well as the story telling heritage of blues and soul, drawing comparisons to esteemed bands such as Daughtry, Bon Jovi, U2 and the E Street Band. He renders every phrase with an emotional rhythm that reflects his powerful stage presence and heartfelt lyrics that pulsate through every song. Band mates Peter Spero, formerly an artist on MCA records, Steve Cunningham, John Eaton, Mike Majett, Junior Padilla, Emmit Bumms and Maureen Murphy, help to shape the sound of this electrifying new group which is certain to capture the attention of audiences everywhere.
Zmick’s unique sound can be described as a modern interpretation of progressive rock. A quartet hailing from Chicago, IL, they write an eclectic variety of heartfelt lyrical songs and instrumental music. Zmick’s lyrical sound is strongly influenced by soul funk, folk, and rock, while their instrumentals are influenced by jazz, fusion and electronica. Zmick puts on high energy, jazz inspired, rock shows.
The Aaron Williams Band soon begin work on their next album with Chicago’s Grammy nominated producer Johnny K. Before they hit the studio in Feb. the band will debut and record many new songs live at Double Door. This concert will also be filmed for a music video to promote the album’s first single “Lightning Bolt.” The AWBand formed from the dorms of Columbia College Chicago and now is being promoted on a national level. You can connect to the music from their first two albums and 10 year history of the band at: www.aaronwilliamsmusic.com
With a universal appeal and uncanny ability to enrapture fans of all ages and backgrounds, 3IC is often compared with such lauded acts as The Dave Matthews Band, Jason Mraz, Dispatch, Umphreys McGee, and O.A.R. Yet 3 In Counting has since diversified itself with a unique infusion of various musical backgrounds combined with an unrelenting dedication to the quality, originality, and integrity of their music.
At the core of 3 In Counting’s allure is their dynamic live show. Apparent to the audience is their love of the moment as 3IC performs with magnetic showmanship. With engaging and insightful lyrics, powerful vocals, and multi-dimensional instrumentation, 3IC unites their individual talents to rise above themselves, taking the music to new heights. At any moment one might be witness to a spontaneous, yet timely improvisation as the individual performances of each member coalesce into a cohesive, genre-defying, and cathartic musical euphoria.
As their exhilarating live shows enthralled more and more fans, demands for a studio album became increasingly fervent. 3IC was happy to oblige, and to the delight of their fans harnessed their creative energy in the studio and released their debut LP At the Edge (2011). The success of At The Edge confirms 3IC’s status as one of the most promising and exciting new acts from Chicago.
Not even old enough to have finished college, three hometown friends and original band members Michael Hayes (guitar/vocals), Evan Behmer (percussion) and Eric Csukor (keys) formed 3 in Counting. After writing and recording their first original songs, the band recruited Rob Kletsky (bass) in 2007 and later in 2011 Matt Hines (lead guitar and backing vocals). The band has also featured Chris Hagerman (saxophone), Allie Kral (fiddle/Cornmeal), Leah Pearl (vocals) and Aaron Williams (guitar) for both live and studio situations.
After 2 years of playing every bar and club that would book them, 3 In Counting had it’s first brush with notoriety when they entered and easily won the 2009 Ballydoyle Battle of the Bands contest in Aurora of which over 100 bands from the greater Chicago area compete, the prize being a coveted spot on the stage of Aurora’s “Rock on the Fox” summer festival.
Since then the band has built a substantial fan base, attracted press, and gone on to play the Atlantic City Music Festival, The Miami Music Festival, and many premier Chicago venues like The House of Blues, Double Door, The Cubby Bear, Martyrs, Reggies, Elbo Room and Schubas.
If you want to hear what the forefront of the Chicago music scene sounds like, get your hands on the newly released “At The Edge” CD by 3 In Counting, available on iTunes and Amazon.com. Even better, get your groove on and attend one of the energetic 3IC live shows going on every weekend somewhere in the Chicago metro area.
