Cancer Bats have come to destroy. Fueled by a burning desire to rage harder, play louder and have more fun than any other band, Cancer Bats mix hardcore, southern metal and punk rock into a lethal rock and roll explosion.
The band originated in May of 2004 with singer Liam Cormier and guitarist Scott Middleton, former member of Toronto metal band At The Mercy Of Inspiration. The two wanted to form a project that combined their favorite parts of bands like Refused, Black flag, Led Zeppelin and Down, among others. The lineup was rounded out with the addition of Andrew McCracken on bass and Mike Peters on drums.
The four-piece wasted no time writing and recording songs for a self-released EP that saw light in January of 2005 (later reissued on Oct 31 2005 on vinyl by Tragicomedy Records). The band began playing shows throughout North America, spreading the gospel of rage with bands such as Every Time I Die, Nora, Alexisonfire, Haste the Day, It Dies Today, Bane, Comeback Kid, Buried Inside, A Life Once Lost, The Bled, Misery Signals and This Is Hell. With hundreds of shows and several tours in the US and Canada under their belts, Cancer Bats are eager to party in every city, town and metropolis that will have them. Cancer Bats' long anticipated first full-length record "BIRTHING THE GIANT" is due out NOW on Distort Records and will be released September 5/06 on Abacus Recordings.
"One of the top 10 bands to watch in 2010" -ILLINOIS ENTERTAINER
"A rich diversity of guitar sounds and textures, riveted in place by inventive percussion" -CHICAGO READER
"Thinking mans metal for those that strive to be only slightly smarter than the average headbanger... 8 out of 10" -OUTBURN
On the whole, this EP has the depth of a major album and the sound is more organized and mature than most bands could hope for. This EP is an essential listen for fans of understated technical progressive metal and carries considerable force even without many vocals. The sonic elements in the background are also noteworthy for discerning listeners. I'll be damned if my favorite album of 2009 isn't even a full album, but this EP. This is 24 minutes of spacey, luxurious, and melodically sensible metal you won't want to miss. -METALUNDERGROUND.COM
The fully awoken and screaming beast Of Wolves is Steve Sherwood (guitars/vox), Jon Kulpit (drums/back up screams) and Scott Cirksena (bass, backing vox). Steve a longtime old school DIY crossover Punk/Metalhead from many Chicago bands like IVC, THC, Chronic Jaywalker, Halftone, Hedspin. Steve became very frustrated with the the current evolution of heavier music types. Sick of seeing and hearing the "same ol shit" as he put it. He felt most music was trying to hard to be someone or everyone else instead of just being. All these bands trying to fit "the mold....or "cookie cutter" as he calls it. Why cant bands be heavy with out being fake? Or worse trying to sound like everyone else? Well he was ready! And he really needed the therapy! A heavy does of all forms of Punk & Metal. Its real and you can fell it. Even better you can see the release and the therapy this provides to the band and to their fans. After many drummers, heavy hitter Jon (ex Pervo, Crestfallen) gave the impact that was needed and after a Spinal Tap worth of bass players they finally found Scott (ex Flood, [omitted], A.S.S.).
With about three albums worth of material. These songs were written about various things that angered Steve over the years. Subjects that are direct relationship to a working class life. Everyday stress, disillusionment, social injustice. Anger. Politics, Religion. These songs are directly in touch with the world around us and have been waiting to be unleashed upon the masses to de-program and slap those still sleeping (the sheeple) wide awake with brutal force and honesty.
The full length CD is coming soon and the uniqueness of this band will be a refreshing change and an addictive new musical fix for all those who witness their fierce and straight forward approach and want something new and different.... slap in the face, a wake up call to the masses.
Cave Bear is five dudes from Chicago, IL, USA. They are the face of Rock&Roll to come or something silly like that.
TAKEN BY THE SUN
Sounds like Meshuggah getting fellated by Isis and Neurosis with Mars Volta, Shrinebuilder, and Baroness fapping in the background.
