Trio Subtonic, Tica Douglas, Wally Nichols

Trio Subtonic

Trio Subtonic has made their mark on the Northwest independent and jazz music scenes, crafting three albums worth of original compositions by its family members: on keys, Galen Clark; on bass, Bill Athens; and on drums, Jesse Brooke. In 2009 “Cave Dweller” received national attention for striking a balance between unique groove, catchy melody, and overall drinkability. The incorporation of jazz and brazilian traditions with non-stop funky fervor poses the question to the dance floor: is it better to stop for a moment and listen, or to have never listened at all?

Tica Douglas

Originally from Maine and now living in Harlem, Tica Douglas' songs are built by lyrics but obsessed with melody; her music has been described as "exuberant and catchy urban folk."

At times wordy, always imbued with a wisdom beyond her years, Tica shows what a student of religion and literature who spent her childhood on the Maine coast listening to Brian Wilson and Bob Dylan can bring to the table when she packs up her massive songbag and moves to the big city. "While most confine themselves to either straightforward storytelling or purely confessional lyrics, Tica is an expert in crossing the boundary between the two. In conjunction with her unique singing style, this causes the listener to become totally immersed in her songs"(OOTB, Edinburgh UK).

Now she's into hip hop, she used to be into punk. In addition to those genius influences mentioned above, Tica's musical models reach far and wide. Her evolving style shows strains of Joe Strummer-like punk, Jolie Holland-like lilts, The Tallest Man on Earth-like soothe and Swagga Like Us. Her rhythmic lyrics flow and dip into an unexpectedly slow sweet almost Canadian tang She has played in a number of bands, spending a year in Edinburgh, UK, touring there and amassing a fanbase before returning to the States to try her hand on this side of the pond.

Tica released her first full-length album "I Love Mahself, Yup Yup" in the Fall of 2010 and she is in the process of recording/producing her new EP, "Apollo" which will be released Fall 2011.

Wally Nichols

Wally Nichols first got into a band at Brown University where he was a student. He played bass because no one else would. He then toured around the country with his soft/ pop rock band and almost ran The Subdudes's tour bus off the road (by accident) with his tour bus. Not good. After 7 years of working for Atlantic Records (radio promotion), he moved to the country and now plays country leaning, pop rock. He is in pursuit of the perfect 4 minute story set to music!
